Flu FAQ
- Why do I need a flu shot?
The flu is contagious and can cause severe respiratory illness. You may lose valuable time away from family, friends and work. In severe cases, it can lead to hospitalization and death. The annual flu vaccine is recommended for people 6 months and older.
- If I received the COVID-19 vaccine, do I need a flu vaccine?
COVID-19 and flu are caused by different viruses, so the COVID-19 and flu vaccine must be different as well. The flu vaccine does not impact your COVID-19 vaccination or immunity status, and vice versa.
- Is a combined flu and COVID-19 vaccine available?
There is currently no combined flu and COVID-19 vaccine. However, it is safe to receive both of them at the same time.
- Will the flu shot make me sick like the COVID-19 shot?
Vaccines can generate mild, short-lived symptoms as your body builds immunity. It is not possible to get infected through a flu vaccine or COVID-19 vaccine injection.
- Are these vaccines safe?
Approved, authorized and recommended vaccines undergo rigorous evaluation and testing before release through various stages of CDC / FDA review. Available vaccines are considered very safe and offer protection from illnesses that cause significant illness or death.
