Dr. Wheaton is a double board-certified physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation and spinal cord injury medicine. He focuses on the delivery of care across rehabilitation continuum after spinal cord injury including complex spasticity, respiratory needs, and bowel & bladder dysfunction. He provides inpatient consultation, outpatient care and participates in OhioHealth’s multidisciplinary wheelchair seating program.
Dr. Wheaton earned his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis and his medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University. He completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency and his spinal cord injury medicine fellowship at University of Michigan Health: Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor where he served as Chief Resident. He has served on faculty at University of Michigan where he was Co-Director of the Brachial Plexus & Peripheral Nerve Injury Program. He subsequently served as clinical faculty at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine and helped to start the Medically Complex Ventilator Program at Mary Free Bed rehabilitation hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
