About

Akira Wada, MD, FACC, is board certified in cardiovascular disease, cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR), echocardiography, cardiac computed tomography (CT), and nuclear cardiology. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship in advanced cardiac imaging at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he was named chief cardiology fellow in 2015-2016. He was also the recipient of numerous teaching and research awards.

Dr. Wada is the director of the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy program as well as the director of the cardiac MRI program at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He is a member of the structural heart team which treats patients with disease/defects that involve the valves, walls, and or chambers of the heart.

He has co-authored many peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts, book chapters and is actively involved with multiple large clinical trials as well as quality improvement projects. He is an associate program director for the cardiology fellowship at Doctors Hospital and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Wada's approach to medicine is one that actively involves the patient in medical decisions by keeping them informed and ensuring that they understand their cardiovascular health or disease. He understands how cardiovascular conditions can impact a patient and their families and wants to ensure that patients are provided with the best possible care.

Outside of work, Dr. Wada enjoys spending time with his wife, who is an Allergist/Immunologist, and their three children. Although he is a transplant to Columbus, he has embraced being a Buckeye.
