Overview of our policies

  • Comprehensive charity care: We offer free care for individuals and families earning less than 200% of the federal poverty level.
  • Sliding scale fees: Substantially discounted care is available for those earning between 200% and 400% of the federal poverty level.
  • Hardship policy: For patients with unique circumstances who don’t qualify for charity care, we provide additional support.

What information do I need to provide to apply?

You need to provide your name, address, phone number and account number (if available). Additionally, include the names, ages and relationships of immediate family members living in your home, along with their sources of income or employer names, hire/start dates, and income for the past 3 and 12 months.

How do I apply?

Patients must complete a financial assistance application to apply for the program. The application process includes providing documentation to verify income and financial hardship. To apply, you can:

What discounts are available for medical bills at OhioHealth?

Based on income level, eligible patients can receive discounts ranging from 65% to 100% off their responsibility for the care received.

Will I be charged more than insured patients if I qualify for OhioHealth’s Financial Assistance Program?

No, patients determined to be eligible for assistance under the Financial Assistance Program will not be charged more than the amounts billed by the hospital for care provided to insured patients.

What options are available if I'm uninsured or paying out-of-pocket at OhioHealth?

If you're uninsured or paying out-of-pocket, OhioHealth offers several options to help manage your healthcare costs. These include charity care, sliding scale fees, interest-free loans and an uninsured discount policy. Our financial assistance programs are designed to ensure you receive the care you need, regardless of your financial situation.

What services are covered by OhioHealth’s Financial Assistance Program?

The Financial Assistance Program applies to medically necessary services billed by OhioHealth. Exclusions include transplant-related services and elective cosmetic procedures. Additionally, physician services billed by OhioHealth are covered, regardless of whether the patient received these services at the hospital.

Should I apply for other financial assistance programs before seeking help from OhioHealth?

Yes, patients are encouraged to apply for other financial assistance programs, such as Medicaid, Medicare or private insurance, to help cover hospital charges and other charges by providers not covered under the OhioHealth Financial Assistance Program. This ensures that all available resources are utilized to manage healthcare costs. Additionally, it is important to note that OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center and OhioHealth Rehabilitation Hospital still have separate charity policies.
